Auto manufacturer Rivian has completed their approval process and the first Rivian R1T truck has been produced on the assemby line! Congratulations to the whole Rivian team for all the years of work getting to this stage in the process. The CEO and Founder of Rivian, RJ Scaringe, gave a short but heart-felt speech at their assembly plant in Normal, Illinois.
I've worked for Start-ups before, but never something in manufacturing. In fact, I've gone to a startup selling software and saw that organization grow and become acquired by another company in less time. Knowing that process, Rivian getting to this stage in the process is a massive achievement. It's one thing to talk about people putting years into a project, but it is quite another, I'm certain, to actually live through it and experience it from the start. Hats off to Rivian!
Another interesting aspect to Rivian is their CEO RJ Scaringe. He honestly seems like a down-to-earth good person. Like a person you would like to run into at a bar or restaurant and have a beer with (maye at https://destihl.com??)
The folks over at Rivian Stories also did a great piece on the production line beginnings. Follow them on YouTube or at https://rivianstories.com.

The guys at Rivian Stories also made a comment that I thought was pretty observant.
"The amount of friends I have made throughout this whole process has been rediculous. Whoever would have thought that preordering a truck would create the friendships that I have with you two and so many other people."
That is really neat. During these times of COVID-19 and working from home and wearing masks everywhere, people can still come together over something interesting, unique and hopefully game-changing, like a vehicle. Transportation has created close-knit groups of people for a long time. Think about Harley-Davidson motorcycles, Jeeps, Tesla, Porsche, Ferrari and many others. Now Rivian joins that spirit in uniting people, many of whom are new to EVs.
Congratulations to RJ Scaringe and the whole Rivian Team! (Go Illini! :-)
