Rivian R1S on the way!

It is finally happening... I started the 8 step process a few weeks ago and now have a delivery date scheduled.

I am fascinated to see how this delivery goes. There are many complaints on forums about how the vehicles have panel gaps or paint issues or other types of imperfections. This reminds me of when we purchase a Tesla Model 3. According to the forums there was a high-probability of getting a Model 3 with all sorts of issues. We had none. Zero. Nada. Zilch. The Model 3 has been perfect.

So I expect the Rivian will be mostly flawless, too, even though they are a much younger company.

The process wasn't perfect. I began the purchase process in late June with a different VIN and the original 22" wheels I had spec'd. Four weeks passed without word on that VIN. According the my guide it was still in Normal. Being a VIN in the 11,xxx range and seeing people online receiving R1S in the 15,xxx range I was a little concerned. We ended up finding another one that was on the way to the SC but with 20" dark wheels.

I had intended to maybe add a set of 20" wheels at a later time because I enjoyed the ride quality of the R1S on 22" when I rented one on Turo and only wanted the 20" for winter tires to spread the tread life over two sets of tires or to take off-roading. I am happy either way. Can't wait to report back on the quality of the delivery!
